Admission and Funding
Fees and Funding for Australian Permanent Residents
Fees
The University's up-to-date information on fees is
here.
At present (1999), Australian permanent residents are usually
effectively uncharged for postgraduate research studies because UNSW normally
gives HECS exemption scholarships to them.
Funding
Scholarships
The main source of funding for permanent residents (there are some
exceptions for recent arrivals) are the
Australian Postgraduate Award Scheme
(information is available via
the UNSW scholarships page).
and the
University College Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
University College will supplement the awards of year 2000 winners of APAs
to the higher ($17,888 pa) rate of the UCPRS.
There are also an additional 15 NewSouth Global postgraduate scholarships.
These are supplementary to the APAs, and are awarded under the same terms and
conditions. They simply increase the pool of scholarships available at UNSW, and
no separate application is required.
Supplementary Funding
Holders of either UCPRA or APA will also be eligible for
- School of Computer Science scholarships, which are granted at the
discretion of the Head of School, and carry a (currently tax-free) stipend of
$3600 pa
- payment of up to $5,512 pa (largely untaxed) for up to five hours' per
week work (mainly undergraduate tutoring and laboratory supervision)
- Computational Intelligence students may also be eligible for an
additional scholarship of $3,000 per annum
Thus holders of either scholarship can normally expect a total income of
$27,000 pa (virtually tax free).
Other Scholarships
Information on a range of other scholarships is available via the main
UNSW Scholarhips page.
